مریم رجوی رئیس‌جمهور شورای ملی مقاومت ایران، در کنار نخست‌وزیر سابق الجزایر سید احمد غزالی طی مراسمی در ژنو روز 19سپتامبر (28شهریور) بعد از قتل 52 عضو سازمان مجاهدین خلق ایران در کمپ اشرف. سازمان مجاهدین گفت: نیروهای عراقی در اول سپتامبر 52 عضو این سازمان را در کمپ اشرف در نزدیکی مرز ایران در استان دیالی که به مدت طولانی پایگاه آنها بود را به قتل رسانده و اموال آنها را به آتش کشیدند. مرگ اعضای سازمان مجاهدین خلق ایران به‌طور جهانی محکوم شد اما سازمان ملل و دولتهای غربی مراقب بودند که در میان گزارشهای مختلف از آنچه اتفاق افتاد کسی را متهم نکنند.
